Mike Nolan is an experienced former prosecutor running for Oneida County Court Judge in the 2024 election.
“I’m running for County Court Judge to bring my many years of experience working the District Attorney’s Office and County Courtroom to serve the people of our community,” said Nolan. “As your next County Judge, I will strive every day to ensure that every person who enters the courtroom is treated fairly and impartially in the eyes of the law.”
This judicial seat will be on the ballot in 2024 due to the pending retirement of Judge Michael Dwyer. Since 2022, Mike has served as Judge Dwyer’s Law Clerk, where he assists in management of the courtroom, authoring decisions and nearly all other aspects of cases that are presented there.
Prior to his appointment as Judge Dwyer’s Law Clerk, Mike served for 16 years as an Oneida County Assistant District Attorney. He began his career at the D.A.’s Office fresh out of law school and steadily worked his way up to serving as Bureau Chief of the Gun Involved Violence Elimination/Community Outreach Program.
During his tenure as a prosecutor, Mike handled thousands of cases, ranging from drug-related offenses to some of the most severe crimes affecting our community. He prosecuted 16 felony cases to trial, securing convictions for murder, attempted murder, robbery and illegal gun possession.
Mike was introduced at his announcement event by former longtime Utica City Court Judge John Balzano, who noted, “It is imperative that the judges who preside over the courtroom are of the highest caliber. And that is exactly why I am standing here today in support of Mike Nolan. He has the experience, knowledge and temperament that we need serving in Oneida County Court for the next decade.”
Mike, 43, is a lifelong resident of Oneida County. He grew up in Utica as the son of a police officer and nurse. He is a graduate of Proctor High School in Utica, Syracuse University and Albany Law School. He lives in Sauquoit with his wife Anne, who works at Mohawk Valley Community College, and their two children.
“Oneida County has been my home for my entire life. It is where Anne and I chose to plant our roots and raise our family,” added Nolan. “It would be the honor of a lifetime to earn the voters’ trust to serve as your next Oneida County Court Judge.”
Aside from his exceptional professional qualifications, Mike has also prioritized giving back to his community. Among other roles, he has served as President of Sauquoit Pop Warner Football, Board Member of the Sauquoit Valley Youth Association, and Parish Council Member at St. Patrick/St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Chadwicks.
As a registered Republican, Mike plans to run on the Republican and Conservative ballot lines. The General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
